Day 8: Marriage

There are two areas that Satan will attack more than any other–church and family (marriage). This really should not be a surprise, especially because God is the true center of both. Genesis clues us in as to what takes place when a man and woman are married:

Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh”

Genesis 2:24 NKJV

Therefore if you become one flesh, separation should be impossible without causing extreme pain because of death in such an important area of life. Satan will use anything from misunderstandings to problems to jealousy to separate you because he does not like what God joins together. This mirrors the Church, too, in that we are called the “bride of Christ,” so Satan also seeks to put that marriage asunder.

There are five things that will help you to remain together, and this goes for husbands and wives, as well as the Church. First and foremost, make Christ himself the center of your marriage; then commitment, honor, communication, and forgiveness. This time of Fasting is a great time for you and your spouse to come together and evaluate your marriage. Ask God to reveal areas where Satan may try to come in and cause problems. Pray together and then discuss what God is showing both of you, and make a stronger marriage part of your Fasting Goals! Keep each other in prayer because you should always be each other’s strongest supporter.

Prayer for the Day:

Lord, we need You in our home. We need You in our marriage. We need You in our family. We need You, Father, to be the Lord of our rings. Forgive us,, Lord, for angry words spoken, for wrong actions taken, for any time we have broken the covenant. Help us today, Lord, to love You by loving our mate. Allow our children to see parents who are, who love, who touch, who talk and who communicate, because the marriage they will duplicate will be the one they see between us. So help us, Lord. We need Your supernatural power in our marriage. Help us and strengthen us to keep You as the focus of our marriage. In Jesus Name, amen.
